What should I do to make up the prayers (salah) that I missed ?

shalatQuestion:

Assalamu alaikum, I used not to pray for about 6 to 7 years , but then I started praying ,alhamdulillah, and I try my best not to miss a prayer and always try to pray them on time. However, what should I do about the prayers that I missed? Should I make them all up or would performing as many sunnah prayers as possible make up for them? Also, if I would have to make up those prayers, then can I still continue praying the sunnah prayers and in what order would I have to perform them in? For example, there is 2 raka’as sunnah before fajr prayer,so should I pray sunnah first and then make up for the missed fajr prayer and then pray the regular fajr prayer? Thank you and our feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Collective Du`a or supplications after Obligatory Prayers

berdoaQuestion:

As-Salaam `Alaykum. Is there any evidence from the sayings of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he used to say collective Du`a or supplications after each obligatory prayer. In our community we have different opinions regarding the issue. Basically, our Arab brothers are saying that Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not say the Du`a collectively, therefore, we should not do it, while others say that he has done it. I would really appreciate if you could clarify this matter.

Why is that all Muslims pray toward the Ka’bah when praying?

Ka'bahQuestion:

What is the significance of the Ka’bah? I converted to Islam last year by marriage, and a non-believer told me that Muslims go to Hajj just to touch the stone. Is this true? If not, why is it that all Muslims pray toward the Ka’bah and toward the East? I would like to learn more about my religion so when someone tells me something like this, I can tell them the truth about Islam.

Answer:

Allah says in the Qur’an, “The first House (of worship) appointed for men was that at Bakka, Full of blessing and of guidance for all kinds of beings.” (Al-'Imran 3: 96). Thus by ordering us to face towards the Ka’bah, we are taken back to our Adamic roots.
