Spending money on parents/brother and sister
Question:
Asalam-O-Alakum,
I want to ask about the issue of spending on parents/brother and sister. Are there any rules/limits defined for spending? I am living abroad, no house in my home country. I just want to understand the right of my parents on my earnings from religious perspective.
Thanks and Jazak Allah.
Answer:
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
According to Shari'ah, you are required to make your parents live as good as you live if not better (because as a young man you may bear some difficulty that parent may not be able to bear). Their service and their welfare is a matter of Heaven or Fire to you if you are able to help. Of course, this applies if they are in need, but if they do not need, you may not spend on them any Penney.
The Hadith that means Jannah is by the feet of your mother is correct. Therefore be sure to take this Jannah. The same applies if your father has responsibilities of younger children, if he is in need you are required to help him as much as you can to the level mentioned above.
Allah Almighty knows best.
