Respected scholars, As-Salamu `Alaykum. I have asked this question of many scholars but no one has been able to give me a satisfactory answer. I hope you can clarify it for me.

I know that man has to go through a lot of problems and afflictions throughout his life. Now these sufferings could be a punishment from God or it could be that God wants to test his faith and raise his ranks in the Hereafter. But how can we tell the difference between punishment from God or tests and trials by God?

One of my Christian friends raised the issue of why Islam dictates that converters from Islam to Christianity be killed while Christians can freely convert to Islam. Can you please comment on this so as to convince people about the Islamic point of view?
Also, can you please comment about minority rights in Islamic communities such as practicing their religion and building churches?
Finally, can you please comment about Christian rights to make outreach for Christianity as Muslim do outreach (da`wah)
for Islam? In other words, do they have the right to make an effort to spread Christianity among Muslims as Muslims are instructed to spread Islam among Christians? Thanks a lot.

Some of the major sins or kaba’ir in Islam are as follows:

1. Associating anything with Allah

2. Murder

3. Practicing magic

4. Abandoning salah (ritual Prayer)

5. Not paying zakah

6. Not fasting during the month of Ramadan without excuse

7. Not performing Hajj, while being able to do so

8. Showing disrespect to parents

I would like to know whether it is permissible to use leather products (e.g. belts, suede jackets, and shoes) that are made in the UK and the US and are mainly made from pigskin, the cheapest kind of leather.
Please shed light on this.
